Our Story
Four years before the official registration of Paglaum Sakinabuhi (PSK) as a non-governmental organization in 2019, the Apostolic Sisters of St. John (ASSJ) in Cebu, Philippines, were already working with marginalized squatter families in Banawa Hills.
Their mission initially focused on providing catechism to the community. However, they soon discovered that the children they served struggled to grasp spiritual teachings due to the pressing challenge of hunger. In response, the ASSJ sought to address both the spiritual and material needs of these children and their families, ultimately founding PSK as an NGO.
In early 2024, to strengthen the organization's impact, ASSJ Cebu enrolled in a 19-week organizational development and Project Strategic Planning Workshop series. This initiative aimed to clarify PSK's identity as an NGO and create a sustainable road map for its future, resulting in our current mission, vision, goals, and core values.
Based on this organizational development work, PSK has developed an ambitious six-year project plan (2025-2031) designed to create a transformative path towards sustainability for both the target families and the NGO itself.
